The idea for an indoor ice rink in the Camden, Rockport and surrounding towns had been discussed by various people and various groups for 20 years or more before the creation of MRC. The energy needed would arise from a purpose much broader than just building an ice rink. The area had just successfully completed fundraising for and construction of the Camden Hills Regional High School and it was apparent that the community could be pulled together in a positive way with a world class facility that supported our children. Tragically, the area had also just suffered though a cluster of youth suicides. The combination of these two events created the focus for MRC: a place that would provide an opportunity to do something positive as a family which in turn would help strengthen the family and more broadly create community bonds.The vision was for a place filled with children, fathers and mothers, single and divorced, gathering together to watch and participate in healthy activities and then gather around a fire in a comfortable common area. It would be a place where all were welcome and where there were no memberships required.
