In 1908, a group of businessmen calling themselves "The Westwood Club" longed for a challenging course on Cleveland's west side, where they could "put on our comfortable togs and play a round of golf, or, when we like, put on our best clothes and have a real party". This group of founding fathers included John Zangerle, Mortimer J. Weber, John Crider, John Hinz, Robert Reid, and John Kerlin. The Westwood Country Club Company was incorporated February 1914
